PHA Media, a London based PR firm, have recently taken part in a volunteer project as part of a wider strategy to raise employee engagement with green issues.
PHA Media joined Green Mark early in 2012 and have since made significant progress in improving the environmental sustainability of their company. The award-winning company, which offers a full range of PR and publicity services across traditional and digital PR, have introduced new and inspiring awareness-raising initiatives, aimed at both staff and clients, focusing on everyday operations at their West London office.
Most recently they have enjoyed a successful day, helping to groom and prune an ‘edible playground’ in East London, as part of a volunteer day with the charity Trees for Cities. The company is also taking part in the Trees for Cities 5K Treeathalon in Battersea Park on Saturday 15th September.
As well as outdoors activities, a number of other office- based initiatives have been introduced, which aim to incentivise and reward staff for their environmental efforts.
They include a Green Points system to showcase outstanding efforts towards the company’s green agenda as well as the appointment of a Green Ambassador from each of their departments, to oversee environmental policy.
The company has made brilliant progress in other areas such as waste management, introducing departmental recycling bins and cup recycling bins next to water coolers. They will also be ensuring compliance with environmental legislation by incorporating a system to log waste disposal.
PHA Media Account manager Cameron Hall says, “We are passionate about understanding the impact of our business on the environment and implementing effective change. All our staff have really got behind the campaign and seem to be enjoying the element of competition we have introduced.”
Cameron continues, “As part of our partnership with Trees for Cities we will be planting a new tree in an urban area for every new client we sign. We already have dozens of trees to plant and have a long list of staff eager to get involved once the tree planting season starts in autumn.”
The company is hoping to certify to Green Mark Level One in forth coming months. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to hearing about their successes at the forthcoming Treeathalon!
